China Atomic Energy Authority(CAEA) is the competent authority for nuclear industry development. It is responsible for exchanges and cooperation with other foreign governments and international organizations in the nuclear field, and takes a leading role in the national nuclear emergency response and management.

a.    Responsible for research and drawing up policies and regulations related to China' s peaceful uses of nuclear energy;

 b.   Responsible for research and drawing up planning, programme, and industry standards related to China' s peaceful uses of nuclear energy;

c.    Responsible for China' s peaceful uses of nuclear energy except nuclear power related projects, assessment and approval, supervision, and coordination of the implementation of  projects;

d.    Responsible for nuclear security and nuclear material control;

e.     Responsible for nuclear import and export review and management;

f.    Responsible for exchanges and cooperation with other countries and international organizations in the nuclear field, and participate in the affairs of the IAEA on behalf of the Chinese government;

g.   Undertake daily work of the National Nuclear Emergency Response Office, responsible for study and formulating national nuclear emergency plan and organize its implementation;

h.   Responsible for the decommissioning of nuclear facilities and radioactive waste management.
