China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA) is the competent authority for nuclear industry in China. It is responsible for the development and administration of China’s nuclear industry, exchanges and cooperation with other foreign governments and international organizations in the nuclear field, and takes a leading role in the national nuclear emergency response and management.
a. Responsible for the formulation of policies and regulations related to China' s peaceful uses of nuclear energy;
b. Responsible for the development of plans, programmes, and standards related to China' s peaceful uses of nuclear energy;
c. Responsible for projects related to China' s peaceful uses of nuclear energy except nuclear power, including assessment and approval, supervision, and coordination of implementation;
d. Responsible for nuclear security and nuclear material control;
e. Responsible for nuclear import and export control;
f. Responsible for exchanges and cooperation with other foreign governments and international organizations in the nuclear field, and participating in the IAEA affairs on behalf of the Chinese government;
g. Undertake the routine work of the National Nuclear Emergency Response Coordination Committee, lead the development of National Nuclear Emergency Plan and organize its implementation upon approval of the State Council ;
h. Responsible for the decommissioning of nuclear facilities and radioactive waste management.
