On October 31, 2012, China Experimental Fast Reactor (CEFR), one of the major projects in the National High-tech R&D Plan, passed the expert acceptance organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). The completion of the experimental fast reactor marks the important breakthrough has been made in the second step of the three-step strategy (i.e. pressurized water reactor—fast reactor—fusion reactor) of China’s nuclear energy development. It also marks that China has kept abreast with world advanced level in the fourth generation nuclear power technology R&D. As the CEFR, with a design thermal power of 65 MWt and electrical power of 20 MWe, is one of the few large-power experimental fast reactors with power generation capacity so far in the world.
