On August 21, 2012, the neutron spectrometer of the China Advanced Research Reactor (CARR) in China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) generated its first diffraction image, which laid a solid foundation for the R&D on neutron scattering experiment.

The scientific researchers of  CIAE will actively carry out R&Ds on neutron scattering after the first diffraction image was successfully obtained, which will facilitate break-throughs in some advantageous basic research areas, such as high temperature superconducting, rare earth permanent magnetism and nano-materials.Based on this, China will also achieve for the first time applying of neutron scattering technique the industrial application , solving  many practical problems in the engineering construction.
