On July 17, 2009, Unit 2 of Fangjiashan NPP—Qinshan NPP Expansion Project started construction, which marks the two 1000 MWe units of Qinshan NPP Expansion Project entering the full-scale construction phase. As a major step of CNNC to carry through the national policy of “keeping economic growth, expanding domestic demand and adjusting structure”, the Fangjiashan project, with a total investment of 26 billion Yuan RMB, adopts internationally proven and advanced second generation plus nuclear power technology. The localization rate of the two units is over 80%. Before this, Unit 1 of Fangjiashan NPP started construction on December 26, 2008. It is expected that Unit 1 & 2 will be put into operation in 2013 and 2014 respectively. At that time, Qinshan NPPs, with a total installed capacity of 6300 MWe, will become the largest nuclear power base in China.
