(News from China Atomic Energy Authority) （by Gu Xinping）On November 24, 2003, Zhang Huazhu, Chairman of China Atomic Energy Authority met with Odair Dias Goncalves, Chairman of Brazil Nuclear Energy Committee(BNEC), and his delegation. The two parties conducted wide exchange and discussion about further strengthening cooperation on peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Chairman Zhang gave a brief introduction to the guests of the development of nuclear power, application of nuclear technology in industry, agriculture and medicine and Chinese governmental organizations, relevant enterprises and science and research institutes. He also mentioned that the cooperation in the fields of advanced science and technology such as space and aviation between Brazil and China was very fruitful, and reiterated that two countries should further enhance their cooperation in the field of nuclear power and make a significant progress. He hoped that the visit of the Brazilian delegation would become a good beginning of substantial cooperation in nuclear energy between two countries.

Mr. Goncalves agreed with Mr. Zhang and hoped to start wide cooperation in the fields of development of nuclear energy, the application of nuclear technology in agriculture and medicine, and the supervision and the administration of nuclear safety. He said Brazilian side gave very high expectation for the bilateral cooperation.
Officials of China Atomic Energy Authority and representatives from National Nuclear Safety Administration, China National Nuclear Corporation and Chinese Academy of Agriculture Science attended the meeting.

During the stay in China, the Brazilian delegation also visited National Nuclear Safety Administration, China National Nuclear Corporation and Chinese Academy of Agriculture Science, and discussed detailed cooperation projects with Chinese counterparts.
