The State Council officially approved the Twelfth Five-year Plan for Nuclear Safety

Recently, the State Council officially approved the 12th Five-Year Plan on Nuclear Safety and Radioactive Contamination Prevention and Treatment and the 2020 vision , which was issued on October 16, 2012.
Newly added contents include emergency measures directly related to the Fukushima nuclear accidents, such as “resolute solution” procedures, and “prevention and mitigation of severe accidents”, etc. Based on the findings of the comprehensive safety inspection and the routine safety evaluation of nuclear facilities nationwide, and with the purpose of ensuring nuclear safety, environmental safety and public health, the Plan lays down 9 key tasks, 5 major projects and 8 supporting measures, with an aim to further improve the safety level of nuclear energy and technology utilization, and obviously decrease the radiation safety risk of the environment. According to the Plan, the investment budget for key nuclear safety and contamination prevention and treatment projects is about 79.8 billion Yuan RMB during the 12th Five-Year Plan.
