On September 18th 2017, Mr. Tang Dengjie, Chairman of China Atomic Energy Authority led a delegation to the 61st International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference held in Vienna, Austria.

In the statement at the plenary session, Chairman Tang pointed out that China's nuclear energy industry has continued to maintain the momentum of rapid development. In 2016 alone, a total of 7 nuclear power units were put into operation. The construction of four nuclear power units with Chinese self-developed third generation technology Hualong One is well underway. China is willing to strengthen international cooperation and to share the experience in nuclear energy development with all member states. We welcome qualified candidates from emerging nuclear power countries to apply for the scholarship in the Atomic Energy Scholarship Program established by the Chinese government.
Chairman Tang highlighted that China has always followed a rational, coordinated and balanced nuclear safety and security approach which is put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping in its process of nuclear energy development. China has positively supported the Agency to play a leading role in international nuclear security cooperation, and would also like to make full uses of China's Center of Excellence on Nuclear Security as the platform to contribute to the global nuclear security capacity building.
On the sidelines of the Conference, Chairman Tang met with Mr. Yukiya Amano, Director General of IAEA, and witnessed the signing of the Practical Arrangement on the Cooperation in Education and Training. Tang also held discussion on issues of mutual interest with Vice-President and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Mr. Ali Akbar Salehi, US Energy Secretary Mr. Rick Perry, Chairman of the French Alternative and Atomic Energy Commission Mr. Daniel Verwaerde, Chairman of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Mr. Muhammad Naeem, Director General of Nuclear Energy Agency of OECD Mr. William Magwood.

IAEA is the most important intergovernmental international organization in nuclear field, seeking to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy and to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons. The annually General Conference is of the most importance for the IAEA. In the Conference, representatives from 168 member states and relative international organizations discussed issues on nuclear development, application of nuclear technology, nuclear safety and security, technology cooperation, nuclear nonproliferation and the Korean Peninsula Nuclear Issue.
