CAEA Vice Chairman Liu Jing Visits UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Namibia

  From May 3 to 13, 2023, Liu Jing, Vice Chairman of China Atomic Energy Authority, led a delegation to visit the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Namibia.


  During his visit to the United Arab Emirates, Liu Jing met with Ahmed Mohammed Belajer Al Rumaithi, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, Christer Viktorsson, Director-General of the UAE Federal Nuclear Authority for Nuclear Regulation, etc. He also visited the Emirates Nuclear Technology Center at Khalifa University and the China-U.A.E Industrial Capacity Cooperation Demonstration Zone. In Saudi Arabia, Liu Jing met with Abdulaziz Hamad Al-Owaishek, Assistant Secretary of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Issa, CEO of the Saudi Arabia Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission, and Abdullah bin Muftar Al-Shamrani, CEO of the Saudi Geological Survey. He also visited the Nuclear and Radiation Environmental Monitoring Laboratory at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University.


  During his visit, Liu Jing promoted the implementation of the guiding principles of President Xi Jinping’s keynote speech at the China-GCC Summit. He had in-depth discussions with relevant parties on the possibility of establishing a China-GCC Forum on the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Technology and jointly building a China-GCC Nuclear Security Center of Excellence. He particularly promoted the Phase II Atomic Energy Scholarship Project of the Chinese Government and the high-quality resource platform for nuclear energy and nuclear technology talent training such as Chinese nuclear-related enterprises, universities and scientific research institutes. Views are also exchanged about deepening practical cooperation between China and the UAE, and between China and Saudi Arabia in the nuclear field.


  During his visit to Namibia, Liu Jing separately met with S. C Herman, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of Namibia, and Kornelia Shilunga, Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy, to promote bilateral cooperation in the fields of uranium development, nuclear infrastructure construction, and talent cultivation. During his inspection tours to the Rossing Uranium Mine of China National Nuclear Corporation and the Husab Uranium Mine of China General Nuclear Power Group, he visited production facilities such for uranium mining and hydrometallurgy and talked with Chinese and foreign employees on the front line.


  Deng Ge, Secretary-General of China Atomic Energy Authority, Shen Yanfeng, Vice President of China National Nuclear Corporation, and Guo Limin, Vice President of China General Nuclear Power Group, participated in the relevant activities.
