On September 17, 2007, the 51st IAEA General Conference was held in Vienna, Austria. CAEA Chairman Mr. Sun Qin headed the Chinese Delegation to attend the Conference and made remarks at the General Debate session on the first day.
Mr. Sun first read out Message of Greetings from Premier Wen Jiabao for the 50th anniversary of the Agency. Premier Wen highly commended the achievement made by the Agency in the efforts to promoting world nuclear energy development and preventing proliferation of nuclear weapons since its establishment. In his message, Premier Wen reiterated full support of the Chinese Government to the Agency and expressed warmest congratulation for its 50th Anniversary. Mr. Sun then gave a comprehensive introduction of China’s nuclear power development and reiterated China’s consistent position in supporting peaceful uses of nuclear energy and opposing proliferation of nuclear weapons.
Mr. Sun said the Agency strictly fulfilled its obligation and made endeavors to meet demands of Member States. The Chinese side fully recognizes the work done by the Agency in the areas of nuclear energy, nuclear technology application, nuclear safety, nuclear security and safeguards, and calls for the Secretariat of the Agency and all Member States to face up to various challenges brought by global nuclear power renaissance.
More than 140 Member States, international and regional organizations sent high-level delegations to the General Conference.
