【CAEA Net News】On January 29, 2007, Chairman of CAEA met with the delegation led by Mr. Tomihiro Taniguchi, Deputy Director General of IAEA and exchanged views on nuclear security and nuclear safety.
Mr.Sun said that China is faced with both opportunities and challenges in introducing the third generation technology which is one of the world frontline nuclear power technologies. In addition to that, China plans to develop a fleet of second generation plus reactors by keeping improving their performance. Though the task is heavy, China is confident with its promising future of nuclear power development. Meanwhile, the nuclear fuel, equipment manufacturing and instruments as well as meters associate with the nuclear industry will see a great development. Chinese Government will pay more attention to nuclear safety when more enterprises participate in nuclear power industry. In the past 15 years of nuclear power development in China, there has been no severe accident taking place. In the future, China will make more efforts to provide trainings and awareness seminars to the new participating enterprises. In addition to trainings with domestic resources, enterprises are encouraged to communicate and learn from their international counterparts and maintain close cooperation with the IAEA.
Mr. Taniguchi said that, the visit to China’s nuclear facilities and exchange of views with Chinese colleagues left a deep impression on him. He believed that China was now in a new stage of nuclear power development, facing new challenges in nuclear safety and security. “Safety and Quality come first” is a good concept, but should be materialized through practical actions.
