(News from CAEA) A workshop on implementation of  IAEA Extra Budgetary Project (EBP) activities and Asia Nuclear Safety Network (ANSN) project, jointly organized by China Atomic Energy Authority(CAEA) and IAEA was held recently in Beijing.

Officials from IAEA introduced new strategies on management of EBP and ANSN project.  Representatives from China made presentations on implementation EBP in 2005 and development of ANSN China website.  The IAEA officials appraised its Chinese counterpart of achievement in and its contributions to implementation of EBP and ANSN projects.  Views and insights had been exchanged between two sides for further enhancement of management of EBP and ANSN projects.

Domestic participants are from CAEA National Nuclear Safety Administration(NNSA), China National Nuclear Corporation, Nuclear Safety Centre, Beijing Institute of Nuclear Engineering(BINE) and Research Institute of Nuclear Power Operations.

The IAEA officials were invited to visit BINE and NNSA after the workshop.

Brief Introduction of ANSN Project

ANSN project, led by IAEA is under the framework of IAEA EBP.  The objective of ANSN is to pool, analyze and share existing and new knowledge and practical experience to further improve the safety of nuclear installations in Asia.  It will also serve as a model for other regions to develop similar nuclear safety networks, and eventually for a global nuclear safety network.

Major functions of ANSN are education and training, information assessment, knowledge management and communication among experts and the public.

CAEA has been supporting and actively contributing its efforts to development of ANSN which is recognized as a vehicle to enhance and improve safety of nuclear installations in Asia.

China Nuclear Safety Network Center (ANSN-China) is an important site of Asian Nuclear Safety Network.  Main responsibilities of ANSN-China are as follows:
- To maintenance and update of nuclear information database;
- To provide Web service, popularize of nuclear safety knowledge for public;
- To provide ANSN members organization and personal with information query and download service; - To provide interconnection with other ANSN network centers, share information and resources;
- To providing interconnection with centers in technology suppliers country and IAEA relevant database centers;
- To set up Nuclear Safety Training Center, provide expert consultation, to be responsible for training of technicians from all ANSN participants;
