  [CAEA net news] Mr.Zhang Huazhu, Chairman of CAEA, met with Mr.Esteve, Senior Vice President of Framatome who came to deliver the tendering document for the Chinese 3rd Generation Nuclear Power projects on February 28,2005.Both sides had exchanged the opinions regarding the Sino-French nuclear power cooperation. 

  Framatome had obtained EPR projects in the Finland as well as in  France, said  Mr.Zhang Huazhu. There was no doubt on the Framatome’s capabilities in the project management and other aspects. Furthermore, Framatome had been ware of Chinese design and manufacture entities very well based upon the years-long cooperation. All these factors would be conducive to the bidding effort on Chinese 3rd generation nuclear power projects. The reviewing work was expected to be very laboring and fiercely in the coming months. The Chinese experts in the reviewing team would play the major role in this regard.  It was hoped that Framatome ANP could offer a competitive solution in terms of price, localization, conditions of technology transfer and etc.

  The condition offered by French side would be disclosed this afternoon, said Mr.Esteve. This was the second tendering effort for nuclear projects in China made by Framatome ANP. In contrast, the bidding document of this time had covered the contents of localization and technology transfer. French had carefully studied all the bidding conditions required by Chinese side and formed a strong managerial team to ensure the smooth implementation of projects. Additionally, it was believed that the experience with which Framatome won the bid in Finland would be helpful for this time effort. Mr.Esteve briefed Mr.Zhang Huazhu that Framatome had obtained the license of construction from Finish administration on February 17.

  Mr.Eestve mentioned with the many advantages including large power volume generated, high load factor, high thermal efficiency of over 36% which was 2% higher that normal 4-loop reactor, EPR was very economically competitive. The EPR projects in Finland and France would supply a lot of valuable feedback for new projects in China.  Meanwhile, based on the accumulated experiences in terms of localization and technology transfer, Framatome hoped to expand the existing nuclear power cooperation with Chinese counterpart through the 3rd generation bidding projects and expansion projects.
