(News from China Atomic Energy Authority) (by Huang Wei) On October 28, Zhang Huazhu, Chairman of China Atomic Energy Authority, met with Mr. Robert Card, under secretary Department of energy , and his delegation. The two parties held a friendly talk.

Mr. Zhang first expressed his welcome to Mr. Card for his visit. He said that the signature and effectiveness of the agreement on peaceful use of nuclear energy, the agreement on peaceful use of nuclear technology and the Statement of Intent government assurance for nuclear technology transfer between China and USA showed that there was no substantial obstacles for starting cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy and nuclear technology between two sides. Zhang also introduced to the guests the development of nuclear power in China.

Mr. Card gave a brief introduction on the discussion on the new Energy Bill in USA, and introduced the effort that the Department of energy, the Nuclear Regulation Committee and some American nuclear power corporations had made to revitalize nuclear power. He also expressed his optimistic view about the cooperation prospect in nuclear energy between China and USA.

The two parties also exchanged their opinions on some other issues.
